the Transition to Leadership
"You can be on the right track, but if you sit there too long without moving, you'll get run over."
- Will Rogers
Introduction:
Within an organization, changes of function, authority and responsibility mean adjustments for the persons involved. Whether the new leader is promoted from within or hired from outside the organization, challenges confront the first-time supervisor or leader. Frequently initial euphoria dissolves as the individual tries to find his/her footing in the new situation. This program enhances the productivity of the new supervisor or leader by providing strategies for success.
Outcomes:
Objectives include: |
• Examine expectations of the person being promoted as well as supervisors, peers and employees
• Provide an orientation to the roles and responsibilities of a supervisor/leader
• Examine belief systems that limit the success of the new supervisor or leader
• Develop strategies to shift counterproductive beliefs and replace them with beliefs that mobilize the transitioning person to success
• Give "survival skills" to those who have just received a promotion and/or those designated to receive a promotion
