Motivating and Retaining Great Employees
"People have the capacity to go either way--toward growth or toward stagnation. The design of the system in which they work can significantly influence which way they go, and how far."
- Chris Argyris
Introduction:
Often managers are unsure how to redirect the behavior of an employee whose performance is unsatisfactory. It can be challenging to get agreement from an employee that their behavior is a problem to the organization. Even harder to secure is long-lasting behavior change.
This program will teach managers to conduct coaching and manage performance in a way that decreases anxiety and defensiveness. Coaching and performance management that is applied in a constructive fashion can bring about sustained, long-term behavior change.
Outcomes:
This program teaches participants to: |
• Analyze positions and establish attainable performance standards
• Conduct effective counseling sessions which involve the employee in the process
• Ensure that the employee recognizes his/her performance discrepancy as a problem
• Secure the “buy in” of the employee to changing his/her behavior
• Employ follow-up and evaluation techniques to ensure long-term desired performance
